FAQ

Installation Process and Timelines

How does the process work if I need a brand-new arena built from scratch?

Through our partnership with distributors, Equus and Equirnorm, we offer a total turnkey construction service. The process is geared toward your project’s specific needs and type of arena build. Through our distributors, we offer:

  • consultation and planning,
  • groundworks,
  • irrigation and drainage, and
  • surface installation.

Can I install Noviun myself, or do I need a specialist?

Noviun is designed for efficiency. A standard top-up can often be installed in one day (arena size dependent) using a tractor and power harrow. However, for new and existing builds, our partnership with installers provides a full “turnkey” service, covering everything from planning permission to laser-leveling.

How long does a full installation take?

For new builds, the process follows four main stages:

  • Consultation & Planning: We assess your site’s topography and handle the planning permission applications.
  • Groundworks & Drainage: This is a critical step. We install sub-bases and drainage systems to ensure your arena or track never floods.
  • Irrigation & Separation Layer: We install irrigation systems like HydroFlow and specialized membranes to separate the base/irrigation pipe from the riding surface.
  • The Noviun Layer: Finally, we install your chosen Noviun mix (Fibre, Mix, or Performance) to provide the finished surface.

What are the delivery lead times for the UK and Northern Ireland?

Operating from our hub in the UK, we typically deliver within 5–10 business days. We use various transport options to ensure we can access even the tightest farm lanes.

Is this surface better for me and my horse health?

Absolutely. Traditional synthetic surfaces pose two major health risks that Noviun eliminates:

  • Toxic Dust: As synthetic fibers (polyester/polypropylene) degrade, they create microplastic dust that can be inhaled by both the rider and the horse, leading to respiratory issues. Noviun is organic and non-toxic so as it breaks down after its useful life, it doesn’t add to respiratory dangers.

  • Joint Longevity: Our fibers integrate entirely into the sand creating a uniform surface which increases confidence and reduces impact on joints. Synthetic fibers separate and form inconsistent bunching on top of the sand creating a blocking effect that increases pressure on joints and tripping.

What about the environment?

Noviun is the only surface that ensures zero microplastic leaching into your local water table. It’s safer for your horses to live near and safer for you to work on every day.

How does Noviun differ from traditional waxed or synthetic surfaces?

Unlike GGT or polyester, Noviun is the world’s first plastic-free, natural fiber blend. It utilizes natural elastomers and high-performance fibers that mimic the “root structure” of turf grass. You get the stability and energy return of a world-class arena without adding tons of microplastics to your land.

Is it suitable for specific disciplines like Dressage or Show Jumping?

Yes. Because we control the blend, we adjust the concentration of Noviun Fibre to match your needs. For Show Jumping, we increase stability and grip. For Dressage, we optimize for rebound and “cushion” to reduce concussion

Does the “waterless” additive need to be re-applied?

Unlike traditional wax which can become brittle or dry out, our natural binder remains consistent across temperatures. Depending on use and maintenance, reapplication may be necessary, butjust needs to be sprayed and harrowed in rather than pulling up and reblending the entire surface.

Do I need a special grader to maintain the surface?

An adjustable tined arena harrow will work perfectly. Because Noviun fibers are engineered to stay integrated with the sand, they don’t “float” or migrate to the surface like carpet fibers or rubber making it easier to harrow.

How long does the surface last?

A typical Noviun surface maintains high performance for 5–7 years before requiring a minor top-up. Because the materials are non-toxic, they do not degrade into harmful dust as synthetics do.

What happens to the surface at the “end of its life”?

A typical Noviun surface maintains high performance for 5–7 years before requiring a minor top-up. Because the materials are non-toxic, they do not degrade into harmful dust as synthetics do.

Is Noviun more expensive than synthetic alternatives?

While the cost per kilogram may be higher, you use a fraction of the weight compared to synthetics to achieve the same result. When you factor in lower shipping costs and the lack of disposal fees, Noviun is often the most cost-effective long-term investment for your facility.
